Designed by Turkel Design, Deerhaven Residence is a contemporary luxury home carefully placed into the natural bedrock and trees of San Juan Island’s west side. Jayson Schmidt provided project management and construction leadership while employed with a former employer, helping coordinate a technically complex custom home featuring expansive glass, home automation, automatic shades, radiant heated concrete floors, a lighted Viewrail staircase, large lift-and-slide doors, covered heated decks, and premium finishes throughout.

Saltwater Farm is a nationally recognized boutique hospitality and event destination on San Juan Island, designed by RAD LAB. Jayson Schmidt provided project management and construction leadership while employed with a former employer, helping deliver a multi-phase development that includes a dramatic timber event barn, luxury boutique inn, custom guest cabins, and numerous supporting structures. The project features a commercial kitchen, integrated three-story residence within the event barn, expansive timber construction, custom steel detailing, luxury guest accommodations, and thoughtfully designed outdoor gathering spaces. Widely recognized for its innovative architecture and craftsmanship, Saltwater Farm has been featured in Dwell, ArchDaily, Archello, and numerous architectural publications.

San Juan Tiny Suites is a boutique vacation rental development designed, developed, and built by Jayson Schmidt in Friday Harbor, Washington. As designer and part owner, Jayson created a unique hospitality experience that combines thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and innovative use of space. Built on 26-foot trailers, each luxury tiny home features a cantilevered deck and extended roof structure that expands the overall footprint to 30 feet. Custom details include spiral staircases, integrated fabricated metal railings, handcrafted Madrona wood dining tables, inverted living layouts, refurbished Ironwood decking, SIP wall and roof construction, White Oak countertops, and premium finishes throughout. The project demonstrates how high-end architecture, efficient planning, and creative problem-solving can transform a compact footprint into a distinctive boutique hospitality experience.

Designed by Jayson Schmidt, this custom luxury glamping retreat reimagines the traditional wall tent by seamlessly integrating it with a permanent bathroom structure and high-end outdoor living spaces. Working directly with Davis Tent, Jayson developed a custom tent and timber roof structure that perfectly aligned the tent interior with the attached bathroom while preserving the authentic glamping experience. As Project Manager and a member of the construction team while employed with a former employer, Jayson helped bring the owner's vision to life through careful planning, coordination, and execution.
The project features radiant heated concrete floors, a custom corrugated metal shower, an outdoor shower, expansive entertainment deck, handcrafted timber benches, oyster shell landscaping surrounding a custom fire pit, a propane fireplace, and a one-of-a-kind fire feature built around a reclaimed wooden aircraft propeller. Additional site improvements included a drivable grass paver parking system with integrated irrigation and a dedicated parking area for the owner's ICON A5 amphibious aircraft. The result is a distinctive hospitality retreat that blends luxury accommodations, aviation, and the natural beauty of the San Juan Islands.

Designed by Jayson Schmidt, this custom two-story garage and studio apartment was created to support an active island lifestyle centered around aviation and outdoor recreation. As Project Manager and a member of the construction team while employed with a former employer, Jayson helped transform the owner's vision into a highly functional and architecturally distinctive space that complements the adjacent glamping retreat.
The first floor features oversized carriage doors providing flexible storage for vehicles, boats, golf carts, bicycles, and seasonal equipment, while the second floor offers a bright, open-concept studio apartment with soaring ceilings, custom shiplap feature walls, and bold royal blue cabinetry. One of the project's unique features is the commercial-grade garage flooring, selected to resemble natural wood while providing the durability required for vehicle use.
The property was also designed to accommodate the owner's ICON A5 amphibious aircraft, with dedicated parking and site planning that seamlessly integrates aviation into the overall design. Combining practical functionality with thoughtful architectural details, the project demonstrates how custom design can enhance both everyday living and unique recreational lifestyles.
Project Type: Aircraft Hangar Renovation & Recreation Space

Originally designed as a traditional aircraft hangar, this project was transformed into a one-of-a-kind aviation retreat that blends aircraft storage with recreation and entertainment. Jayson Schmidt served as the designer, project manager, and a member of the construction team while employed with a former employer, helping reimagine the space to accommodate a larger aircraft while creating a highly customized environment for the owner's lifestyle.
To accommodate the larger plane, the rear wall of the hangar was extended, creating additional space that became a dramatic two-story climbing wall designed in collaboration with a specialty climbing wall consultant. The renovation also includes an indoor pickleball court, guest suite with a full bathroom and laundry, custom gathering areas, "Big Ass Fans," string lighting, and numerous entertainment features throughout.
Exterior improvements included replacing the original metal siding with rustic cedar siding, installing a new roof, upgrading to a Schweiss strap-lift hangar door system, welding new windows into the existing hangar door, and creating a custom Corten steel veneer with decorative faux barn doors. The result is a truly unique aviation facility that combines innovative design, recreation, and craftsmanship into a space unlike any other.

Located in the heart of downtown Friday Harbor, Web Suites is a contemporary mixed-use development that combines commercial space with boutique hospitality accommodations. Jayson Schmidt provided project management and construction leadership while employed with a former employer, helping coordinate the successful delivery of this architecturally distinctive project in approximately one year.
The building features modern commercial space on the main level, now home to Guardian Veterinary Care, with three thoughtfully designed boutique vacation rental suites located on the second floor. A custom spiral staircase provides access to a rooftop deck offering guests panoramic views of Friday Harbor and the surrounding islands. The project incorporates clean contemporary architecture, efficient space planning, and high-quality finishes while maximizing functionality for both commercial tenants and overnight guests.
Web Suites highlights experience delivering mixed-use commercial developments that successfully integrate retail, hospitality, and modern architectural design within a compact urban footprint.

Jayson Schmidt provided project management and construction leadership while employed with a former employer, helping coordinate the successful execution of a highly customized luxury residence from planning through construction.
The home's design features dramatic cantilevered structural elements that create expansive covered outdoor living spaces while giving the home its distinctive architectural character. A two-story concrete fireplace serves as both a structural and architectural centerpiece, complemented by extensive custom millwork, premium interior paneling, and carefully detailed finishes throughout the residence.
Successfully delivering a project of this caliber required close collaboration between the owner, architect, consultants, and construction team. Eagle Cove reflects the level of coordination, technical expertise, and craftsmanship required to bring architecturally significant custom homes to life while maintaining the owner's vision and the integrity of the original design.
